As a do-gooder, I often wonder if my efforts are making any difference. Did a child really improve his or her reading skills because of my work? Did a homeless family finally get back on track financially? Did a recently divorced volunteer finally realize her own self-worth through her service to others? Did my fellow nonprofit colleague make use of the skills I helped him develop so he could make a bigger impact in his own agency?
Enough about me, however. Today I dedicate this post to those who have silently made a massive impact on my own life. I salute each and every one of you. Because of YOU, I have been able to help so many others.
PJ, thank you for teaching me to love taking photos. I'm still not as good as you are, but I do enjoy capturing an occasional gem. Fill the frame!
Bill, thank you for accidentally forwarding me a derogatory email about my overeagerness as a young professional. (It was meant for a manager.) It gave me a goal in life: Don't get old. Don't get stale. Don't lose that fire in my belly.
Bill E., thank you for humoring me and sharing nuggets of wisdom while I volunteered for you and brought you other volunteers. You shared some insightful words once... "Thank you for calling me Bill. Others call me Mr. E. But I appreciate that you don't get so formal." It reminded me that I need to keep close to the front lines of the agencies I work with, including the staff members, volunteers and clients. Huge relationship-builder!
Cissy and the late Tim Gardner, thank you for providing me with the history of volunteer centers in Dayton. Thank you for collaborations, laughs, expertise, fearlessness, hope, and encouragement. Words cannot express...
Joe, thanks for embracing creativity and fun! You made working together inspiring, and I always know the sky is the limit when we partner. 800,000 clicks in one week, right?
Marilee, thank you for steady leadership. You never let anything rile you up. You simply know you can handle what's coming, and you make it look easy. Even when it couldn't be that easy. Kudos!
Susan Ellis and the late Mary Merrill, you are my idols. Both of you show strength and cajones. You back these qualities up by being experts in your field. I can only aspire to be half as cool as you both are.
These are just a few of the amazing people I want to thank. My promise is to dedicate more of these posts to thanking amazing people, ordinary and extraordinary, who make a huge difference. After all, you can never thank someone enough! For more inspiration, check out my Pinteres
What they all say is true... It IS all about "who you know" in this world. And I've known some incredible people in my life and career. Who would you like to thank today?
